The second annual Limited Theatrical Release Film Festival has arrived. Please run, don't walk, down the red carpet because the collection is open!

Thank you to everyone who signed up, wrote a PH, and contributed treats. We hope that everyone enjoys their gifts and that there are many fics within the collection that catch your eye. The collection will remain open for late treats. Creator reveals will happen one week from today.

Sign ups for the 2021 Limited Theatrical Release Exchange are open! Sign ups will close 1 July 2021 at 01:59 AM UTC. Please make sure to check your timezone, as this may be a day earlier for you.

Since everyone has been really good at formatting their nominations, the tagset hasn't required much upkeep! As a thank you, we're opening sign ups early while keeping the tagset nominations open. The tagset will close at 21 June 2021 at 01:59 AM UTC to allow you to get in any last-minute films that you forgot about.

The rules in brief:

You can request 3-10 fandoms and offer 4-10 fandoms, with 1-10 characters/ships per fandom. You can request/offer either fanart, fanfiction, or both.
You can request an individual fandom more than once with different character/ship tags (for example, if you want only art for some of your requests and only fic for others), but you must still request at least 3 total unique fandoms.
You can request "Any". Please keep in mind that the "Any" box means "any character or relationship in this fandom that has been nominated for this exchange" (including “None”). It does not mean "any character in the fandom as a whole."
You can also include DNWs (Do Not Wants), which are things you don't want to see in your gift. DNWs can include anything, but may not be used to railroad your gifter into making one exact type of gift and may not contradict your requests. Contradictory and/or railroading DNWs are not considered enforceable.
This exchange uses "or" matching. Your gifter is only required to create something based on one of your requested characters/ships.

Nominations for the 2021 round of Limited Theatrical Release are now open! The tagset can be found here.

Please comment on the eligibility post before submitting your nomination if your nomination meets any of the following conditions:

film fandom category has over 1000 works on AO3 or may have over 1000 works at the time the mods check it
film is only listed under a Series or All Media Types category on AO3, and that Series/All Media Types category contains over 1000 works
film or trailer is based on other source material (e.g. a book) and has not yet been given its own AO3 category
relationship nomination includes a specific OC tag

As a reminder...

Participants may nominate up to 10 fandoms with up to 10 "characters" per fandom (character tags may be used for single characters, relationships, or "None" tags).

Relationships between two or more characters should be nominated as individual "characters”. To nominate a relationship, simply put "group:" before their names, in the following format:

group: Character X/Character Y (Movie Name)

group: Character X & Character Y (Movie Name)

group: Character X/Character Y & Character Z (Movie Name)

You are welcome to nominate original characters as part of & or / relationships with a canon character. If you are attempting to nominate an OC tag more specific than Original Character(s), Original Male Character(s), Original Female Character(s), or Original Genderless Character(s), please comment on the eligibility post first or your nomination may be rejected.

If you are interested in worldbuilding or any non-canon-character-centric exploration of the nominated movie, you must nominate the tag “None” as an individual “character”, in the following format: None (Movie Name).

Crossovers between eligible movies may be nominated under the fandom "Crossover Fandom." When nominating them, please use the format "group: Character X (Movie A)/Character Y (Movie B) & Character Z (Movie C)", "group: None (Movie C) & None (Movie D)", etc.

Limited Theatrical Release is an exchange for small- to medium-sized film fandoms. For the purposes of the 2021 round, a small- to medium-sized film fandom is defined as any film with fewer than 1000 works on AO3.

This post is provided in order to clarify fandom eligibility for the 2021 round of this exchange.

Blanket Eligibility:

Standalone short films with fewer than 1000 works on AO3 are considered eligible for the 2021 round.
Animated films with fewer than 1000 works on AO3 are considered eligible for the 2021 round.
Music videos with fewer than 1000 works on AO3 are considered eligible for the 2021 round.
Trailers for films yet to be released with fewer than 1000 works on AO3 are considered eligible for the 2021 round only if the film is not connected to an ineligible franchise, subject further to the the mods discretion.
Films based on or inspired by non-film source material (e.g. a book) are considered eligible for the 2021 round only if the film has its own fandom category on AO3 separate from the source material, and that category contains fewer than 1000 works.
Standalone episodes of TV shows such as Black Mirror and tie-in film shorts from multimedia franchises such as Overwatch are not considered eligible for the 2021 round.

If any of the statements below applies to a fandom or character tag you wish to nominate, please comment on this post before submitting the nomination or it will be rejected:

If you wish to nominate a movie with over 1000 works listed on AO3, but you feel the movie should still be eligible for a special reason, please comment on this post to explain why you feel the movie should be eligible before submitting the nomination or it will be automatically rejected.

If you wish to nominate a movie that is only listed under a Series or All Media Types category on AO3 and the AO3 “Series”/"All Media Types" category contains over 1000 works, please comment on this post to clarify before submitting the nomination or it will be rejected.

If you wish to nominate a rare film based on or inspired by other source material (e.g. a book) but the film has not yet been given a fandom category, please comment on this post to clarify before submitting the nomination or it will be rejected.

Generic OCs are considered eligible nominations for the 2021 round as part of & or / relationships with canon characters! If you wish to nominate a specific OC tag (e.g. "Deckard/Original Replicant Character(s)", "Saoirse & Original Daoine Sidhe Character(s)", etc.), please comment on this post to explain why you wish to nominate a specific OC tag, or your nomination may be rejected. Specific OC tags must relate in an immediately obvious way to the fandom you wish to nominate them for (e.g. "Koda & Original Bear Character(s)" for Brother Bear (2003)), and may not be so specific that they could be considered railroading.

As this exchange is centered around smaller film fandoms, it provides a fantastic opportunity to share the rare movies, music videos, and short films you know and love with others!

If you plan to nominate a small film fandom for the 2021 round that you think others may not be familiar with, or that you're just really excited about, you are encouraged to comment on this post in order to introduce and promote your fandom! There is no required format, but here if you need some suggestions to get you started:
