2020 Rules & FAQ

 By signing up for this exchange, you're committing to create a gift for at least one person and receive a gift in return. Gifts can be either fanfiction (at least 1000 words long) or fanart (with clean, finished lineart and on unlined paper if drawing traditionally). 

 

Any movie fandom with fewer than 1000 works on AO3 is considered eligible for this exchange. Fandoms at or near the cutoff and single movies included under a "Series" or "All Media Types" fandom tag with over 1000 works will be reviewed for eligibility on a case by case basis. 

If you have a question that is not covered in the rules listed below, please comment on this post with your question and the mods will assist. 

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

Any movie with fewer than 1000 works on AO3 is considered eligible for this exchange. This includes animated films and short films. If you wish to nominate a movie with over 1000 works listed on AO3, but you feel the movie should still be eligible for a special reason, please comment on the eligibility post to clarify before submitting the nomination or it will be rejected. 

 

Nominations for movies listed together as a series or All Media Types on AO3 (e.g. “Mad Max Series”, “Alien Series”, etc.) and containing more than 1000 works will be reviewed on a case by case basis. If you wish to nominate a movie that is only listed as a series or All Media Types on AO3 and the AO3 “series”/"All Media Types" category contains over 1000 works, please comment on the eligibility post to clarify before submitting the nomination or it will be rejected. 

 

Crossovers between eligible movies are welcome and may be nominated under “Crossover Fandom”. Crossovers with non-eligible fandoms will not be considered eligible for the 2020 round. 

 

Single character and group relationships are considered eligible for this exchange. Romantic/sexual relationships, platonic relationships, and combinations thereof are all welcome. Relationships involving original characters with at least one canon character are welcome. 

 

“None” tags, representing any non-canon-character-centric exploration of the nominated movie (worldbuilding, environment art, etc.), are considered eligible for this exchange.

 

NOMINATIONS

 

Nominating is the process of electing characters and ships that can be requested and offered in this exchange. You cannot request or offer characters who haven't been nominated. 

 

Each participant can nominate up to 10 fandoms, with up to 20 characters/ships in each fandom.

 

Relationships between two or more characters should be nominated as individual "characters”. To nominate a relationship, simply put "group: " before their names, in the following format:

 

group: Character X/Character Y (Movie Name)

group: Character X & Character Y (Movie Name)

group: Character X/Character Y & Character Z (Movie Name)

 

Romantic/sexual relationships are indicated by a / sign between the characters' names. The / indicates that you want the relationship between the characters to be romantic and/or sexual. Platonic relationships are indicated by an & sign between the characters' names. The & indicates that you want the relationship between the characters to be platonic (friendship, family, etc.).

 

You are welcome to nominate original characters as part of & or / relationships with a canon character. If you are attempting to nominate an OC tag more specific than Original Character(s), Original Male Character(s), Original Female Character(s), or Original Genderless Character(s), please comment on the eligibility post first or your nomination may be rejected. Specific OC tags (e.g. "Original Replicant Character(s)", "Original Daoine Sidhe Character(s)", etc.) will be approved or rejected at mod discretion.

 

If you are interested in worldbuilding or any other non-canon-character-centric exploration of the nominated movie, you must nominate the tag “None” as an individual “character”, in the following format: None (Movie Name). If you have specific preferences for a “None” request you will have the opportunity to make them clear in the optional details of your request. 

 

Nominate crossover relationships under the fandom "Crossover Fandom." When nominating them, please use the format "group: Character X (Movie A)/Character Y (Movie B) & Character Z (Movie C)."

 

SIGNING UP

 

Once nominations have been fully reviewed, mods will open signups. When signing up, you choose what you'd like to receive a gift about and what you’d like to create a gift about. You can only request and offer movies, characters, and relationships that were nominated into the 2020 tagset. 

 

You can request 3-10 fandoms, with 1-10 characters/ships per fandom. You can request either fanart, fanfiction, or both.

 

Note: You can request an individual fandom more than once with different character/ship tags (for example, if you want only art for some of your requests and only fic for others), but you must still request at least 3 total unique fandoms. If you do not have at least three unique fandoms in your requests by the time signups close, your signup will be deleted.

 

You can offer 4-10 fandoms, with 1-10 characters/ships per fandom. You can offer either fanart, fanfiction, or both.

 

The "Any" box means "any character or relationship in this fandom that has been nominated for this exchange" (including “None”). It does not mean "any character in the fandom as a whole." 

 

In the "Description" section of the signup form, you can include prompts for your gifter to get a better idea of what you want. It's a good idea to give examples of tropes and kinks that you like, as well as to provide some prompts specific to the requested movie. 

 

You can also include DNWs (Do Not Wants), which are things you don't want to see in your gift. DNWs can include anything, but may not be used to railroad your gifter into making one exact type of gift (e.g. "DNW anything except a stealth The Children’s Hour (1961) crossover where rule63’d Roy Batty and Joe from Roman Holiday are secretly in love and elope on a unicorn"). Do not list DNWs that contradict your requests (e.g. requesting a "/" relationship and then DNWing sexual and romantic content). If you have a DNW that seems to contradict a requested movie, character, or ship, you may be asked to elaborate by the mods.

 

The 2020 round of this exchange uses "or" matching. Your gifter is only required to create something based on one of your requested characters/ships.

 

ASSIGNMENTS

 

If you aren't able to be matched as a recipient, your requests will go out as an initial pinch hit.

 

If you aren't able to be matched as a gifter, we will make a post mentioning that we have unmatchable participants. Then we will send you an email asking you to add to your offers.

 

If you have questions about your assignment and want to ask something of your recipient, do not contact your recipient. Instead, email the mods at limitedtheatricalreleasemod@gmail.com, and we will act as an intermediary.

 

By signing up for this exchange, you're committing to create a gift for at least one person and receive a gift in return. Gifts must be a complete work of fanfiction (at least 1000 words long) or fanart (with clean, finished lineart and on unlined paper if drawing traditionally).

 

DEFAULTING 

 

Defaulting means dropping your commitment to create your assignment. If you feel you can't create a complete gift for your recipient’s request by the deadline, please default ASAP so the mods can find a new gifter for that request and they can have plenty of time to work on it.

 

There are no penalties for defaulting, except the following: If you default, and the gifter assigned to you also defaults, you will not be sent out as a pinch hit.

 

To default, go to your Assignments tab on AO3. You'll see an option to either fulfill or default on your current assignment. Click Default, and the mods will be automatically notified.

 

PINCH HITS

 

A pinch hit is an assignment that, because of defaults or bad luck during matching, does not have a gifter assigned to it. Since everyone deserves a gift, these assignments need to find someone new willing to write/draw them.

 

Pinch hits will be posted to this journal. To claim them, comment on the PH post with your AO3 username and the number of the PH you want to claim. (Comments will be screened.)

 

Pinch hits are first come, first serve, and the mods will assign the request to whoever asks for it first. You will receive an email notification from AO3 that you have a new assignment if you successfully claimed a PH.

 

You do not have to be signed up for the exchange to claim a pinch hit.

 

TREATS

 

A treat is an extra gift you've made for someone you aren't necessarily assigned to. Treats do not have to meet the minimum requirements, but they must fulfill one of the participant's requests and steer clear of their DNWs.

 

You do not have to be signed up to write or draw treats, and treats can be posted at any time, even after the exchange is over.

 

To post a treat, click the "Post to Collection" button on the collection page. Post the gift as you would normally, making sure you put the username of the person you're treating in the "Gift this work to" box.

 

OTHER

 

Don’t be a jerk. "Being a jerk" includes but is not limited to kinkshaming, ship-bashing, deliberately gifting spiteful fic or art, and any kind of harassment or trolling targeted toward requests for this exchange. If you don't like what another participant is requesting, don't offer it. If you don't like the tags on a certain work in the collection, don't click on it. Being a jerk to other people within the context of this exchange is the (probably only) way to get yourself banned.

Is there a chance we could get a fandom promo post?

Since all the canons will inevitably be short, it'll be easy to pick up new ones for this exchange.
