2020 nominations clarifications #1
Jun. 3rd, 2020 05:46 pmHello! We are so excited about the outpouring of interest when nominations opened, and the tagset is looking fantastic not only in terms of its size but also its wonderful variety. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far!
Due to the size of the tagset it is possible that duplicates or misspellings may slip through. Please comment in this comm if you notice anything out of whack in one of your fandoms, and we will fix it.
Most nominations went through smoothly (thank you all for so carefully following the rules re:group formatting and "None" nominations -- it has made the approval process so much easier for us!) but the mods have questions about two nominated tags which have not yet been approved:

Most nominations went through smoothly (thank you all for so carefully following the rules re:group formatting and "None" nominations -- it has made the approval process so much easier for us!) but the mods have questions about two nominated tags which have not yet been approved:
- Fandom: Babylon 5: Legend of the Rangers - Can someone familiar with the fandom confirm that this is not tie-in material for the series Babylon 5, in the sense that it can be viewed as a standalone film?
- Fandom: Bumblebee (2018) - This fandom tag is categorized under Transformers (Bay Movies) by AO3. The Transformers (Bay Movies) category currently contains 3306 works, putting it well outside the bounds of eligibility for this exchange. Can someone familiar with the fandom provide a compelling reason for why Bumblebee (2018) should be considered eligible?
- Please check the tagset before nominating, as the character/relationship you have in mind may have already been nominated! This is especially important in comparatively larger fandoms. We have already had to reject several duplicate nominations.
- Please remember that for the 2020 round, the tag "None" is intended to act as an umbrella tag for works dealing with the world of the film in general or works that are not focused on any particular canon character(s). You may nominate specific single characters, relationships between multiple characters including OCs, or "None". Tags such as "Any Character", "Author's Choice Of Character", "Worldbuilding", etc. will be rejected.

Date: 2020-06-04 01:20 am (UTC)It does feature a guest appearance from a main character from the Babylon 5 TV show ... but the actual main cast of the movie is composed of entirely new characters, and the plot is unrelated/functionally standalone (though the universe and worldbuilding are contiguous with the show's). It was intended to be a spinoff rather than a continuation or exploration of events from the show.
I'm not sure exactly how to quantify tie-in status in this case, so if that description sounds like it fits your definition, I understand and do not mind one bit if you end up rejecting it. Sorry again for not thinking to do an eligibility post!

Date: 2020-06-05 01:45 am (UTC)This seems like a borderline case. In your opinion, could the canon be viewed as a standalone film by someone who wasn't familiar with the show? Would it make sense as a coherent story?

Date: 2020-06-05 02:26 am (UTC)I'd definitely argue that it is by far the most standalone of the various B5 movies (and the AO3 appears to agree, since Rangers is the only B5 movie that has its own fandom tag separate from the main B5 and "Babylon 5 & Related Fandoms" tags).
... But I understand if you need to take my answer with a grain of salt, since obviously I want it to be eligible!
